At the Austrian Geomechanics Society’s 2018 colloquium, the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) received the first prize for innovation in tunnel operation for the “MDB” – modular track drainage cleaning system. IGT worked closely with ÖBB and was heavily involved in turning the original ideas into a buildable system. The full concept was used during the construction of the Pummersdorf Tunnel and consisted of special manholes and pipework that permit cleaning of the drainage system without any impact on railway operations.
