Refurbishment of tunnel chain Bruck an der Mur

Excerpt

The S6 Semmering Express Road is a central artery of the internal Austrian road network in the industrial region Mur-/Mürztal and also provides a connection between the A2 and A9 motorways. General refurbishments were required on this section (Bruck to Leoben) as a result of the 25 years of traffic to date.

The Bruck (1240m) and St. Ruprecht (620m) Tunnels were refurbished according to the Austrian Road Tunnel Safety Law. Two new cross passages were constructed and various items renewed, including the firefighting systems, road surface and carriageway drainage. In the open-air sections, five watercourse protection systems and two control buildings were constructed. On the nine bridges on this section, the carriageway and crash barriers were replaced. The abutments, piers and deck were inspected for concrete damage and repaired where necessary.
