Vienna Metro Line U1/9 – Altes Landgut
Excerpt
The metro line U1 in Vienna, Austria is to be extended from Reumannplatz station to Rothneusiedl. Four new stations and twin running tunnels are to be constructed in the first exansion phase. The extension will provide optimal local and regional connections to the residents and workplaces of the redevelopment area Rothneusiedl.
Between Reumannplatz and Per-Albin-Hannsson-Siedlung (Donauländebahn), the U1 will replace the existing tram line 67. Via the stations Trostrasße and Altes Landgeut, the line will connect the densely populated areas along central parts of Favoritenstraße. Similarly, Alaudgasse and Stockholmer Platz stations will connect to the high-density areas of the Per-Albin-Hannsson-Siedlung (east and west). The university area south of the Favoriten junction will also be connected. The construction lot U1/9 was the central lot of the mined tunnels. The running tunnels have a length of approx. 700m and the Altes Landgut station approx. 120m. Construction started with the 40m-deep diaphragm wall Shaft L at Altes Landgut. The running tunnels were driven from the shaft with a sprayed concrete lining. The platform tunnel was initially constructed using a side drift followed by a single-stage enlargement. A further shaft and adit were constructed at the end of the station to create an emergency escape at Maria-Rekker-Gasse. IGT was responsible for the following:
